Ms. Page's Kindergarten Page
About the Teacher:
I was born and raised right here in the Tampa area. I actually attended both Tampa Palms and Hunter’s Green Elementary. I also attended Wharton High School. I graduated from USF with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education K-6 with an ESOL Endorsement in 2005. I have worked as both a Kindergarten and First Grade Reading Resource Teacher at Clark Elementary. This allowed me to pull small groups for both remedial and enrichment reading. I have also spent two summers teaching for the Voluntary Pre-K Program at Clark Elementary. I have been part of the kindergarten team here at Heritage going on 6 years. I have to say Kindergarten is my
favorite grade to teach hands down.
Our Aid:
Mrs. Lisa Blackwell.
Arrival and Dismissal:
Our school day begins at 8:00. Breakfast is provided for free in the cafeteria from 7:30 – 7:55. Children should go straight to the cafeteria if they will be having breakfast at school. According to school and county policy, any child entering the classroom after 8:00 will be marked tardy and will need to report to the office to receive a tardy slip. If your child is going to be absent please call the Absentee Phone Line at 740-4580, Ext. 500 to report the absence. Please state your child’s name, teacher’s name, reason, and the anticipated return date. The school day ends at 2:10. When dismissal plans change, please notify me in writing. We cannot accept a verbal statement from your child or from older siblings. Without notification, your child will be
sent home in his/her normal fashion. If you need to pick your child up earlier than 2:10, you must go to the office and sign your child out before 1:45. If your child is a car rider I recommend they bring a hat and a water bottle to keep in their book bags until we are outside at the car loop. It is very hot and there is little shade so this will aid in their comfort.
Take Home Folders and Behavior:
Each day your child will bring home a purple folder. Please remove and review all papers and work sent home. A behavior calendar will remain in the folder for the entire month. Please initial the calendar each day so I know you are aware of what a great citizen your child was in the classroom that day or if there are some areas of behavior that need to be discussed. The beginning of our year is spent reviewing our rules, expectations, and procedures. It may seem monotonous for some, but it is extremely important to instill these behaviors from the start so that we can make progression academically and socially.
Our Class Rules
We raise our hands to speak.
We work quietly at our seats.
We use voices soft and sweet.
We keep our place tidy and neat.
We are helpful, friendly, and fair.
We take turns and willingly share.
Our classroom will foster a positive reinforcement behavior system. We will be reading the story “Heart Prints” in which the children in the story learn that acts of love and kindness leave heart prints behind. In turn your child will be earning plastic heart counters in our classroom for good behavior and acts of kindness. If they use their hands for hurting then they will have to give all of their hearts to person they harmed and apologize. They will still have a chance to earn more hearts throughout the day. On the back of each child’s chair will be a pocket where they will store them. At the end of the day the children will count the number of hearts they have earned. The child with the most hearts will choose their social center first, then the next student and so on. Their favorite social center and wanting to be able to choose first is their incentive.
Student Identification Number:
Every student in Hillsborough County has an ID number that stays with them through High School. They are required to learn this number and punch it in when they purchase a lunch. I have made all my students lunch tags to wear when we go to lunch so they can see their number as they type them. Our aids will also be assisting them in the lunch room. Your childs ID number is written on the inside of their purple take home folder. Please practice this number with your child.
